[One of the] FOUR BROTHERS FROM NORTH LOPHAM
The four sons of Mrs. F. G. Clarke, of Ivy House, North Lopham, are serving with the forces. We give their photos, vis.: - (1) Private W. J. Clarke, motor fitter, Guard’s Division, British Expeditionary Force; (2) Lance-Corporal Friday L. Clarke, 1st Norfolks, British Expeditionary Force; (3) Private Bertie V. Clarke, Northumberland Fusiliers, British Expeditionary Force; (4) Frank S. Clarke, Signal man in the Royal Navy.

Bertie Vincent CLARKE, son of Frederick George CLARKE (1864-1912) and Barbara Constance MUSK (1866-1940), was born on 5 December 1891 in Garboldisham, Norfolk - mother’s maiden name is MUSK.. He was baptised on 9 January 1892 in Garboldisham - parents Frederick George and Barbara Constance. In a Thetford and Watton Times newspaper report Bertie is given as being in the Northumberland Fusiliers. The only other records of his service is a pension ledger that gives him as Lance-Corporal 19590, Northumberland Fusiliers. It also noted that at some point he had received a gun shot wound to the chest and finally left service on 27 March 1918. He died on 19 December 1964 in Hythe, Hampshire - he actually died in Queen Alexandra Hospital, Southwick Road, Cosham, Hampshire.
